Blue Dream Shrimp Care Guide: Tips for Keeping and Breeding in Your Aquarium | AuShrimpHome

Blue Dream Shrimp are admired for their stunning blue color and are a popular choice among aquarists looking to add a vibrant and visually appealing species to their freshwater aquariums. As with any shrimp variety, providing a suitable environment with proper care contributes to their well-being and overall aquarium enjoyment.

  1. Appearance:

    • Blue Dream Shrimp are a selectively bred variety of Neocaridina davidi, displaying a captivating deep blue coloration. Their color intensity can vary, and females are often slightly larger and more intensely colored than males.
  2. Habitat:

    • Originating from the selective breeding of Neocaridina davidi, Blue Dream Shrimp share similar care requirements with other Neocaridina shrimp. They are adaptable to a range of freshwater aquarium setups.
  3. Tank Requirements:

    • Maintain stable water parameters in the aquarium for Blue Dream Shrimp. They thrive in temperatures between 65°F to 78°F (18°C to 26°C) and prefer a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. Adequate hiding spots and plants are beneficial.
  4. Diet:

    • Blue Dream Shrimp are omnivores and feed on algae, biofilm, and leftover fish food. Offer a balanced diet with high-quality shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and other suitable commercial shrimp foods.
  5. Breeding:

    • Similar to other Neocaridina shrimp, Blue Dream Shrimp are prolific breeders in suitable conditions. Provide hiding places and a stable environment for successful breeding.
  6. Compatibility:

    • Blue Dream Shrimp are generally peaceful and can coexist with other non-aggressive tankmates. Avoid larger or predatory fish that may pose a threat to them.
  7. Aquascaping:

    • Enhance the beauty of Blue Dream Shrimp by incorporating live plants, moss, and driftwood into the aquarium. These elements not only provide aesthetic appeal but also offer hiding spots and surfaces for the shrimp to graze on.
  8. Water Quality:

    • Regular water changes and monitoring of water parameters are crucial for the well-being of Blue Dream Shrimp. Maintain good water quality to ensure their health and vibrant coloration.
